Like so many other families you got over the fears and went with your family anyway. I think it is great. The benefits of long term travel for singles is magnified for families. Everyone in the unit is stronger, smarter and closer.

Ahhh Sarah – my favorite post too! I can confirm with first hand experience from just a few days ago in NZ, that your family is “in the groove” together. As soon as we began our 2-family kayaking adventure, I could feel your connectedness and sense of well-being together. I miss all four of you and so do Doug, Colin and Liam. Little-known fact from Friends of Martha: “Contrary to popular belief, high fat food and lots of wine do not make Martha slothful. She appears drunk and lazy because she has developed a low-energy lifestyle to compensate for her extremely low-energy diet.” ha ha ha

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It is really interesting as our family is in the middle of planning our own trip.
I’m looking forward to moving in a totally different headspace from the day to day lifestyle (we have a great lifestyle by the way).
I imagine we may experince some of the same surprises and relevations that you have described. Goodluck with the remainder of your trip.
